The Katima District Swapo Youth League has distanced itself from the Zambezi SPYL Regional Secretary’s letter to the mayor of the town demanding a CEO’s resignation to be revoked. The SPYL Regional Secretary Sarriet Sikobiso, wrote the letter to Mayor Georgina Mwiya-Simataa, and the Chairperson of the Management Committee, Lister Shamalaza. The letter in possession of NBC News demands of the Mayor and her council to revoke former Chief Executive Officer, Charles Nawa’s resignation. Nawa handed in his resignation letter last month and gave tomorrow as his last working day. The town council says it accepted the resignation after consultation with the Urban and Rural Development Ministry. In a media statement this week, the SPYL District Secretary, Justin Mwazi, says the youth of the town will not involve themselves in the affairs of the town council. Mwazi states that the letter was written without consent of the SPYL district structure and that his office did not submit a complaint to the Regional Executive Committee. Approached for comment, the SPYL Regional Youth Secretary, Sarriet Sikobiso, said she could not comment on the issue.
