The Manager of Omurari, the NBC’s Otjiherero Radio Service, Marina Matundu, has urged Namibians abroad to unite in celebrating national days. Matundu says this will be a fitting tribute to the fallen heroes and heroines for their bravery and patriotism. She believes that freedom and independence will only be complete if all Namibians, including those in diaspora, support the Government’s fight against poverty, corruption and unemployment in the country. The NBC official was addressing about 180 Namibians gathered for the commemoration of Heroes’ Day in Manchester, United Kingdom, over the weekend. Speaking at the same event, a member of the Association of Namibians in the UK, Amba Abisai, advised the participants against what she termed, the mushrooming of associations in Britain. She appealed for one sole association in that country representing all Namibians, irrespective of their ethnic, race, creed or political affiliation. Abisai said there seemed to be divisions among Namibians in Britain, leading to the lowest turnout at the national commemoration this year. Several groups representing Namibians there appealed for the preservation of the diverse Namibian cultures, traditions and values in the spirit of One Namibia, One Nation. Matundu traveled to Britain to interact with listeners of the NBC Otjiherero Radio Service, as part of her audience research.
