President Hage Geingob says it is not Government policy to control media freedom in Namibia. Dr Geingob points out that Namibia’s liberation struggle was also about freedom of media, freedom of movement and free speech, emphasizing it will be contradictory for the government to say it is going to control and regulate the media. He says while Government’s work is not about international ratings, it is important to note that the country has the freest media in Africa, while it is ranked 17th in the world. But, the president says it is equally important for media practitioners to be objective and accurate in their reporting. The Head of State was responding to a question about reports of the government wanting to control the media at a media briefing at State House on Friday.
