The Chief Trade Promotion Officer in the Trade and Industrialization Ministry has invited Chinese business people to invest in Namibia’s various sectors. Tunga Mboti extended the invitation in his presentation in the Chinese city of Foshan on Monday. He noted that Namibia needs investors to set up manufacturing plants to make Namibia less dependable on imports. She mentioned water desalination, infrastructure development and the manufacturing of fabrics, building materials, as well as medical equipment as some areas for possible investment. Mboti stressed the need for value-addition to minerals such as diamonds and uranium, while calling for skills development, especially in the agriculture sector. She highlighted the need to invest in the construction of hotels of international standards, to host major international events. The Trade, Industrialization and SME Development Ministry facilitated the mission to the Xiamen and Foshan cities on the south-east coast of China, to promote investment opportunities in Namibia. The delegation of more than 30 Namibian business people and senior trade ministry officials, are meeting investors in Foshan this week. Led by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Gabriel Sinimbo, they are expected to tour factories, form partnerships and linkages. The group attended the 19th International Fair for Investment and Trade, which ended in Xiamen on Sunday.
