Works and Transport Minister Alpheus !Naruseb says although Namibia inherited the existing road infrastructure at independence, the roads were concentrated in the central and coastal parts of Namibia. !Naruseb made the remark while inaugurating the 48-kilometre Oshigambo-Eenhana main road near Eenhana in the Ohangwena Region on Wednesday. He pointed out that the northern, eastern and north-eastern parts of Namibia were neglected before independence. The Minister stated that for that reason, the Government implemented a drastic policy shift with a deliberate focus on expanding the existing infrastructure and construction of rural and feeder roads. !Naruseb said this was done to amongst others facilitate market areas and link Namibia with neighbouring countries. The Oshigambo-Eenhana road has been tarred at a cost of 190-million dollars. It connects the Oshikoto Region to the Ohangwena Region towards the Namibia-Angola border.
