The City Policy arrested 26 drivers and impounded 25 vehicles in the capital on Friday night. They were arrested for operating vehicles while under the influence of alcohol at various strategic places where the police mounted temporary roadblocks. This is part of a joint venture among various stakeholders to address and curb incidences of drinking and driving. The campaign was launched on Friday. Constable Edmund Khoaseb of the City Police’s Public Relations Office says the campaign is aimed at preventing road accidents which often result in many deaths and innocent lives lost in the process. Khoaseb therefore warned motorists to desist from the acts of drinking and driving but to rather seek assistance from their relatives or friends when they have excessive drinks in their body or call the police to help take them home. The suspects are due to appear in court on Monday and are currently eligible for bail of four 4000 dollars. A special investigation will also be conducted on the impounded vehicles to determine if they have existing fines before they can also be released on Monday.
