The Katutura Magistrate’s Court has refused bail to a man accused of stabbing his partner to death and keeping her body in their shack for three days. Magistrate Bernadette Kuberski refused Elvis Mieze bail when he made his first appearance in court on Monday. The State strongly opposed Mieze’s bail on the ground that the police investigation was at an initial stage. Mieze opted to apply for state-funded legal representation and his application has been forwarded to the Directorate of Legal Aid in the Ministry of Justice. His case was postponed to the 17th of February 2017. Mieze was remanded in police custody but was informed that he could still bring a formal bail application before the court. NamPol spokesperson Kauna Shikwambi said Mieze was suspected to have killed his wife last Tuesday and kept her body in their shack. However, when the body started to decompose, Mieze then confided in his uncle who alerted the police. He was arrested on Friday and confessed to the crime. The motive behind the murder is not yet known.
