Namibia’s official opposition, the DTA of Namibia, said Hamutenya’s legacy would reverberate in the echoes of time and what he did for Namibia would not be forgotten. DTA President McHenry Venaani said the sacrifices Hamutenya made during the liberation struggle by going into exile are some of the hallmarks of the great legacy he had left behind. Venaani noted that Hamutenya believed in multi-party democracy and was one of the founders of the Rally for Democracy and Progress that became the official opposition party after its establishment. He said the only regret is that this legacy was never celebrated while he was alive. The DTA leader said this should be a lesson to celebrate the lives of living legends and icons, while they are alive and make sure they are appreciated. Hamutenya leaves behind his wife, Nangula, and five children.
