Obtaining quality education is the foundation to improving people’s lives, which will eventually lead to sustainable development. Education, Arts and Culture Minister Katrina Hanse-Himarwa made the remark at an occasion that marked the official launch of Sustainable Development Goal-Four (SDG4) of the Education 2030 Agenda. The event was held in the Mukwe Constituency of the Kavango-East region. Hanse-Himarwa said tremendous progress had been made towards increasing access to education at all levels. She noted that this had led to an increase in enrollment figures in schools, particularly for women and girls. The Minister said basic literacy skills had largely improved, but that bolder efforts were needed to make even greater strides for achieving universal education goals. She called on stakeholders to be pro-active in honouring their roles and social responsibilities, while encouraging people to embrace the Sustainable Development Goals as a long-term investment. Hanse-Himarwa’s message was delivered on her behalf by the Mukwe Constituency Councillor and Chairperson of the Kavango East Regional Council, John Thighuru.
