Omaruru residents are demanding effective governance from the town council, including improved service delivery in all aspects. The demands were made during a peaceful demonstration that was held by concerned community members at the town last week. The groups spokesperson, George !Garab reads a petition on behalf of the aggrieved community members. !Garab said they had tolerated poor service delivery in many aspects, including poor housing and lack of water at the town. He said those that benefited from the Okapeka housing project have no access to electricity and water since they moved into those houses. The community complained about the council’s failure in involving them in the town’s decision making process. They also want the council to cancel the municipal debts of pensioners. Deputy Mayor Julia Kahuure received the petition and promised to give feedback in two weeks’ time.
