President Hage Geingob will travel to Paris from the 27th to the 29th of November, following an official invitation by his French counterpart, Francois Hollande. The visit is a continuation of high-level meetings between the two countries. During the three-day official visit, President Geingob will engage in talks with the French leader that will culminate in the signing of memoranda of understanding between the two countries. A number of French companies are interested in exploring opportunities in the areas of health, tourism, fisheries and marine resources as well as information and communication technology. The French Ambassador to Namibia said the country has a good reputation among French business people, due to its democracy. Jacqueline Bassa-Mazzoni said this is evident from the extensive co-operation in the agriculture, energy, water and sanitation sectors. Bassa-Mazzoni believes that President Geingob’s visit will further boost co-operation between the two counties. French-Namibian relations date back to the pre-independence era when the Socialist Party Government of Francois Mitterrand invited SWAPO to open a diplomatic office in Paris to lobby for support. After independence, diplomatic relations were established, leading to Namibia exporting fish and uranium to the European country. Dr Geingob is expected to address French business people and potential investors. He will also inaugurate the new Namibian chancery in Paris.
