The Municipality of Henties Bay is gaining momentum in its efforts to strengthen food security and promote self-sufficiency in the Erongo Region.
The municipality has allocated five hectares of land for the revival of the Tulongeni Community Garden Initiative.
The initiative forms part of the regional drive toward urban agriculture, which aims to empower residents to produce their own food while creating economic opportunities.
Speaking at the relaunch of the Tulongeni Garden Project, the Erongo governor said the regional leadership is intentionally promoting urban farming across towns to reduce dependence on imported produce.

“We have started such projects in Swakopmund which are already starting to yield produce, so the five hectares that you get are not easily accessible; you don’t get five hectares of land in any of our towns. I am told the land is already surveyed.”
She said partnerships are being explored with businesses and organisations to ensure the project’s long-term success.
|Goagoses urged community members to safeguard the project against theft and vandalism.
Community members are determined to restore the project to its former glory.
Currently, the project has about 15 to 20 active members who hope to expand operations once all are in place.
A once thriving source of fresh produce, the Tulongeni Garden Project was established 18 years ago by the late Founding President Sam Nujoma.
