The nbc’s Kaisames FM has taken its Drive Time Programme out of the studio with a Road Safety Pop-Up broadcast at the Hosea Kutako International Airport.
The programme is aimed at enhancing public awareness about road safety and encouraging responsible driving behaviour.
The Manager of Kaisames, Des’rae Christiaan, said it is important for both road users and pedestrians to mutually and collectively put in effort in creating a safer road environment.
“As a radio station, we have a responsibility to inform and educate our road users and pedestrians on road safety. We are working with all stakeholders in road safety, and at times we confine them to studios. Today’s initiative is to bring them on location so they communicate the message clearly to those using the airport-to-Windhoek road.”
According to the police, road accidents claimed 80 lives between November 15 and January 5.
472 crashes were recorded during this period, resulting in 918 injuries.
Police said contributing factors include driver fatigue, drunk driving, speeding, reckless driving, and negligent driving, as well as disregarding traffic regulations.
The Namibia Airports Company, the Windhoek City Police, and the Motor Vehicle Accidents Fund formed part of the broadcast.
