Four SWAPO members were sworn-in as members of the National Assembly today. The new members replace former Fisheries and Marine Resources Minister Bernhard Esau and former Justice Minister Sackey Shanghala. The two former ministers are facing charges of accepting bribes of millions of dollars to allocate fishing quotas to Icelandic company, Samherji. Two others replaced former SWAPO MP Jerry Ekandjo and Sabastian Karupu who resigned from their positions. The new members are Martha Namundjebo-Tilahun who is number 84 on the Swapo party’s National Assembly list of 2014. The others are former Information and Communication Minister Joel Kaapanda, the current Swapo Party Youth League Secretary Efraim Nekongo and Festus Marenga. The swearing-in ceremony took place in the National Assembly chambers this afternoon.
