The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Oshana Region have opened an inquest docket following shocking reports of a 101-year-old woman who allegedly committed suicide in the region at the weekend. Warrant Officer Frieda Shikole-Ashiyana of the NamPol community affairs office in the region said in a media statement availed to Nampa on Monday that the woman allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself with a rope in her traditional hut at Omeege village in Oshakati East Constituency, on Saturday. “Her lifeless body was discovered by a relative around 19h00,” Shikole-Ashiyana said. She was identified as Mesitilde Iindongo and her next of kin have been informed. Police investigation continues. In an unrelated incident, Roni Leonard, 20, from Oshitayi village near Ondangwa died on the spot after he lost control of his Volkswagen Golf and overturned on the Ondangwa-Oshikango main road, also on Saturday “The accident occurred near Leonard’s village and his body was transported to the Oshakati NamPol mortuary,” she said. The next of kin are informed. Shikole-Ashiyana further said an Oshakati resident Kornelius Kongolo, 43, was admitted to the Oshakati Intermediate Hospital in a stable condition after an unknown suspect allegedly attacked and stabbed him in his lower back, the neck as well as his head on Sunday. This, Shikole-Ashiyana said, took place around 05h00 on the gravel road behind the open market at Ongwediva. “No arrest was made, as the suspect ran away from the scene,” Shikole-Ashiyana said adding that a case of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm has been opened in connection with the incident at the Ongwediva NamPol station. -NAMPA
