Construction workers on contract at the SWAPO headquarters on Friday held a peaceful demonstration, demanding the party change the situation regarding wages and the alleged mistreatment they receive from the Chinese contractors. They complain about contracts being ended unilaterally whenever the Chinese bosses want to get rid of them. Metal and Allied Namibian Workers Union (MANWU) General Secretary Justina Jonas says they give SWAPO and the Chinese contractors till Monday to respond to their request or drastic measures will be taken by the employees with the help of the union. NBC News could not get a comment from the contractors as the human resources representative on-site could not communicate in English.
