World Radio Day will be celebrated tomorrow at the College of the Arts (COTA) in Katutura and the Minister of Information and Communication Technology (MICT), Stanley Simataa is expected to officiate at the event. A statement from MICT issued yesterday said the event will be held on 13 February 2020 and is expected to attract both public, private and community radios, under the theme ‘Radio and Diversity’. Meanwhile, presenters from various radio stations will interact with the public and engage their listeners on a face-to-face basis at the celebration organised by the Namibia National Commission for the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO). Despite the challenges in the new media landscape globally, radio remains the most reliable, accessible, affordable and timely medium of communication used to reach greater numbers of audiences and grassroots masses, the statement noted. UNESCO proclaimed 13 February as World Radio Day on 29 September 2011 and is celebrated annually. -NAMPA
