The vice-president of the National Union of Namibia Workers (NUNW), has expressed grave concern on the continuous job-losses in the fishing industry. Phillip Munenguni made reference to the retrenchment of 210 employees by SAGA Seafood Namibia at Walvis Bay. SAGA Seafood Namibia is the operating company for an Icelandic Fishing company, Samherji, which reportedly secured access to horse-mackerel guotas in Namibia by paying bribes of N$150 million to politicians and local businessmen between 2012 and 2018.
