Residents of Daweb in the Erongo Region are the latest to benefit from the Small Stock Development and Distribution to Communal Areas project. Speaking at the occasion, Agriculture, Water and Forestry Minister, Alpheus !Naruseb says the Government will continue initiating projects aimed at improving the livelihoods of the rural communities and to contribute to food security. The ministry handed over a total of 420 goats. The government, !Naruseb says, will construct kraals, small stock equipment and veterinary vaccines to the beneficiaries. A revolving agreement will also be signed between the ministry and the beneficiaries to ensure the goats are used for the intended purpose. The ministry, he said, will also empower the beneficiaries and neighbouring communities with training in small stock management. !Naruseb also called on the beneficiaries to make use of the services offered. The SSDDCA is a follow-up phase of a similar project of the ministry titled ‘Small Stock Support Project’ SSSP) which was piloted and implemented in the Hardap, //Kharas and Omaheke regions. The project was rolled out to the communal areas in all 14 regions and Kavango West, Oshana and Kunene regions benefited between 2015- 2016.
