The Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture has decided to close schools following President Hage Geingob’s directive to cancel all public gatherings in light of the Coronavirus outbreak. All public and private schools will be closed until 14 April. Yesterday, the Health Minister announced that two tourists visiting Namibia have tested positive for COVID-19. The visitors were since put under quarantine together with all Namibians they came into contact with. Today, the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) issued a statement that the mid-term break that was scheduled for the week of the 6 to 10 April has been moved and will start tomorrow. In a statement, the institution further announced that all large gatherings, including staff meetings and graduation ceremonies, will be off for 29 days. The graduation ceremonies that were scheduled for 29 and 30 April, have been postponed to coincide with the October 2020 Graduation ceremonies. Students will be informed when they can collect their certificates in the meantime.
