The Acting Secretary-General of the Council of Churches in Namibia (CCN) has urged pastors and church leaders in Namibia to suspend all church gatherings. Ludwig Beukes says Christians, advocates of life and all Namibians should take the pandemic seriously and educate themselves accordingly. He wants them to take appropriate precautions, including closing all church services, following President Hage Geingob’s announcement of a ban on large gatherings. Beukes says memorial services should be suspended, and funeral gatherings should be held in open spaces and over the shortest possible time. He encourages broadcast of church services, including sermons, prayers and announcements over social media. President of the Association for Charismatic and Pentecostal Churches of Namibia (ACPCN ) has asked for calm. Jan Gawaseb says while services are suspended, congregation members can use the time to pray and do Bible studies in small groups of about two to three people with considering venues and space do it. Gawaseb says COVID-19 is impacting the world, physically, economically, socially and spiritually. Both church leaders have asked everyone to be calm and follow all precautionary measures.
