Old Mutual Namibia has committed N$5 million to the fight against COVID-19. A statement released by its executive for marketing, communication and customer strategy, Ndangi Katoma says the financial assistance is aimed towards combating the spread of COVID-19 in Namibia. Katoma says the money will go towards the provision of food to the poor and vulnerable communities, technical equipment and allowances for the payment of recruited medical professionals. Of the total amount, N$2,7 million will go towards the acquisition of testing equipment and tools and services required for effective tracing. N$1 million is earmarked for food supplies to the poor and vulnerable while N$1,3 million will contribute towards the National Disaster Fund on COVID-19. Part of this money will pay allowances for temporarily recruited medical professionals and graduate medical students as well as nurses who might be recalled by the Government to assist. Katoma also highlighted the uncertain future faced by the domestic economy due to COVID-19 and pledged the entity’s continued support where it is needed.
