More than 100 pensioners flocked to Nampost at Walvis Bay to collect their South African monthly pension grants. The situation got out of hand when pensioners decided to disregard the one-metre-apart rule and fire brigade officers were called in to maintain control. The situation has been sorted now and Nampost’s regional manager Fritz Horaeb said there should not be another similar episode next week when Government releases social grants for Namibian pensioners. Fritz says the grants will not be paid out in one day but rather over a period of three months and pensioners can come any day in that period to claim their money. Walvis Bay was a South African enclave until 1994. Many residents kept their South African citizenship after the town became part of Namibia.
