Namibian truck drivers who are on quarantine at their work stations in Windhoek’s Breakwater area are not satisfied with the places they are being kept, saying the places are too small and overcrowded. They also express concern as they are not sure who might be infected as they often traverse several countries. The truck drivers NBC News reporters saw were from Snyman Transport and WP Transport who are transporting food items and other necessities from South Africa, Botswana and Angola. They are also upset with their alleged low pay and lack of medical aid. The drivers also say Namibians should show them more respect and refrain from calling them COVID19 carriers as they are the ones bringing much-needed food and medicine. Attempts to get a comment from the business owners proved futile. All truck drivers entering the country have to go into quarantine since a state of emergency was announced to curb the spread of COVID-19.
