The Ministry of Finance is urging applicants to the COVID-19 Emergency Income Grant (EIG) to remain calm and patient as its SMS line is experiencing congestion. There have been complaints from some quarters of society – that their applications are not being replied to. The ministry’s spokesperson Tonateni Shidhudhu says the system is currently experiencing an overwhelming number of applications, which has affected its ability to respond timely. Shidhudhu says the ministry is currently re-developing the system to be able to handle more applications. The system’s re-development should take about 84 hours, with the revamped application expected to be up and running by Monday afternoon. Applications already received are being verified.
