The Namibia Institue of Pathology (NIP), acting chief operations officer, Bonnie Makumbi said NIP has so far done 338 tests, including retesting of the positive COVID-19 cases. Makumbi said they will have a capacity to test for around 1 400 tests in 24 hours if their suppliers deliver enough reagents by the end of this month. “We have enough personnel ready should the testing increase,” he said. He said NIP is capable of testing around 10%, around 250 000, of the population should the virus spread wider. He also said the turnaround time will be 24 to 38 hours of waiting for results with the automated testing methods introduced. He explained that Namibia is closed to meeting the demand for testing, adding that there are 10 medical scientists trained should testing increases. Makumbi was speaking at the COVID-19 Communication Centre this afternoon.
