The Namibian Police, in cooperation with the Windhoek City Police, erected checkpoints at the Independence Avenue and Clemence Kapuuo intersection in Katutura. This is to stop the movement of people who are not holders of essential permits. Only those going to grocery stores or travelling for medical reasons are allowed to pass. Other roadblocks and checkpoints are set up at Lafrenz Industrial Area, Khomasdal and around the city centre. Police Regional Commander, Joseph Shikongo said during the week that as of today his region will enforce the regulations that deal with confinement to residences. The amended regulations for the COVID-19 State of Emergency now make provision for those who leave their residences to be fined or get six month’s imprisonment, or both, upon conviction. The law enforcement officials will first ask the people to go back to their houses before acting.
