Deputy Minister of Information and Communication Technology (MICT), Emma Theofelus on Monday announced that the daily updates on COVID-19 are being cut down from two to one session which will air at 10h00. MICT, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Social Services, on 2 April 2020 formed a communication focal point centre to ensure that factual and effective information is disseminated on issues around COVID-19. The centre located at the Khomas Regional Office in the capital saw different stakeholders broadcasting information live on the National Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) and social media platforms at 10h00 and 16h00. Speaking at the COVID-19 Information Centre, Theofelus said the decision to cut down to one slot only was to avoid the burnout of frontline workers who communicate daily at the centre, as sessions require a lot of effort, energy and time. “We needed to find a way of being more sustainable in the way information is given out to the public and the ministry reflected on the sustainability to have one slot at 10h00 daily and still be able to give out factual information in a more creative and innovative manner without burning out individuals and stakeholders,” she noted. She encouraged Namibians to continue tuning in for first-hand accurate information updates in efforts to allow citizens to make their decision based on factual information and to ensure that everyone is safe during the fight against the pandemic. Namibia still has 16 confirmed cases. These are three active cases, 13 recoveries and no COVID-19 recorded death. -NAMPA
