A 39-year-old man was arrested by members of NamPol’s Protected Resources Unit over the weekend for being in possession of game meat. During a weekly media briefing in Windhoek on Sunday, NamPol’s spokesperson, Chief Inspector Slogan Matheus said the suspected poacher was arrested at Farm Wihelmstal Nord in the Karibib district in the early hours of Friday. It is suspected that the poacher, who was with two other men, used dogs and spears to kill an oryx. All three suspects lived on Farm Wihelmstal Nord at the time of the incident. The other two suspects allegedly fled the scene upon the arrival of the farm owners at the area where the alleged poaching took place, leaving only the driver of the vehicle on the spot. The police impounded the vehicle used for transporting the meat. The driver of the vehicle is scheduled to appear in the Karibib Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
