First Lady Monica Geingos says Africa has well-crafted policies, but the problem is the speed at which they are implemented. Geingos says as Africa embraces the transparent governance model, policies should be implemented within the given time frames. The First Lady was a guest speaker at Harvard University in Boston on Wednesday. She said Africa sometimes delays efforts aimed at re-dressing inequality in communities and economic emancipation. Geingos pointed out that people’s expectations from governments had risen and policies needed to be implemented to meet those expectations. She also informed the Harvard academia that due to attractive incentives, both local and foreign investors do business in Namibia, but are still not keen on sharing resources. The First Lady believes this contributes to the disparity in wealth distribution and wealth not trickling down. She praised the Namibian Government for seeking ways to remedy the situation by coming up with plans such as the proposed New Equitable Economic Empowerment Framework, NEEEF. Ugandan scholar Allen Assimwe praised the Namibian First Lady, observing that efforts by African First Ladies indicate to Africans either living or studying abroad that policy implementation is not left to the elected leaders only and that the continent is moving in the right direction.
