Air Namibia will fly to several African countries on Friday to repatriate over 100 Namibian citizens stuck in foreign countries as a result of flight cancellations due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The airline has 74 bookings confirmed in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia; 10 in Luanda, Angola, nine in Dar es Salam, Tanzania and 14 in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) of Namibians willing to return. In addition, the airline also made provision to allow booking for foreigners from Angola, Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Ethiopia currently based in Namibia to fly back to their respective countries. The entire operation will be carried out in one day according to Air Namibia Sales Manager, Ebson Ngondo. He made the remarks during an interview with NBC News today. He also emphasised that strict safety measures will be put in place to ensure the safety of all passengers including the wearing masks, continuous use of hand sanitisers, and avoidance of shifting seats on the aircraft. Ngondo also added that all returning citizens will be required to undergo mandatory quarantine of 14 days as stipulated in the state of emergency regulations. The airline also indicated that they are ready to assist with the transportation of any cargo including medical supplies stuck in foreign countries into Namibia when such a need arises. Air Namibia has also resumed its domestic flights in an effort to curb the economic impact of the Coronavirus on the carrier.
