The Environment and Tourism Minister has reiterated a call for all ministries and private companies to develop Environmental Management Plans. Shifeta says plans are necessary to ensure better environmental care. He stresses the importance for ministries and other role players to align their management plans with the Environmental Management Act of 2007. The Act is aimed at promoting better use of the environment and guard against degradation. Shifeta stresses that he will not tolerate bad management practices of the environment and urges everyone to comply with the provisions of the Act. He further expresses concern with some individuals who are fencing off land and start harvesting its natural resources without permission, saying this is illegal under the law. The ministry has already started listing ministries and companies which are carrying out illegal activities in contravention with the law as from the first of August. Shifeta states that they will soon start to prosecute transgressors. He made the remark during a media conference in Windhoek on Wednesday.
