Parents and guardians will no longer be required, by law, to contribute to the school development fund or pay examination fees. Tabling the amendment to the Education bill in the National Assembly, Education Arts and Culture Minister Katrina Hanse-Himarwa says the amendment follows a 2014 cabinet resolution to abolish compulsory payment at public schools. The bill will remove the provision that requires parents to contribute financially to their children’s education which includes school development fund for pre-primary, primary and secondary education. It also includes special education tuition and examination fees charged. Government implemented the universal free primary education in 2014 while secondary education was implemented in 2015.
