Fisheries and Marine Resources Minister Bernhard Esau has warned against the negative effects of a planned countrywide teachers’ strike. Esau says if the teachers down tools, learners will be heavily affected, with their education in jeopardy. He warns that the industrial action will not only affect learners, but also Namibia’s future. The minister therefore calls on teachers’ unions to re-consider their planned strike. Esau also appeals on teachers unions to remain committed to Namibia’s development. He appeals to teachers at Tsumkwe not to take part in the planned strike, which he says will be detrimental to the future of the already marginalised learners. Esau made the remarks at the settlement during the handing over of fish, donated to residents by Hangana Seafood Company, a subsidiary of the Ohlthaver List Group on Sunday.
