The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Erongo Region are investigating the death of a nine-year-old, who reportedly drowned in a sewage dam at Uis on Tuesday. A NamPol report issued by Erongo Regional Crime Investigations Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Erastus Iikuyu on Wednesday indicated that the boy, who has been identified as Mauristo Tsei-Tsei Mou was playing with other children near the dam believed to be about 1,5 metres deep. The children informed the deceased’s grandmother about the incident, who notified the police. According to the police, the deceased’s body was only discovered at about 20h30 the same day, after the Uis Settlement Office and community members assisted the rescue team with water pump machinery to pump the water out of the dam. Meanwhile, in an unrelated matter, the police in the same region are on the hunt for an arsonist or arsonists who allegedly set fire to about seven shacks as well as a brick structure in the Kuisebmond residential area in Walvis Bay. According to Iikuyu the fire, which occurred last Wednesday around 02h30, destroyed four more shacks and another brick structure, after it spread. Everything in these structures was destroyed, however, no injuries or fatalities were reported. The value of the damaged properties is still unknown. No arrests have been made so far and police investigations continue.
