Two men arrested in the cash-in-transit heist involving 5,7 million dollars in 2004 have been found guilty as charged. The armed robbery took place in the Brakwater area north of Windhoek. The two men are Jan Julius, who was the driver of the Fidelity Security Services’ van from which the money was stolen, and Okuryangava resident George Jambeinge. Julius was found guilty as an accomplice on a charge of robbery with aggravating circumstances for having facilitated and assisted the armed robbery. High Court Judge Naomi Shivute found that Julius, who drove the Fidelity Security Services vehicle that was transporting the stolen money, was instrumental in the armed robbery. Jambeinge was found guilty on a lesser charge of theft after about more than 1,5 million dollars was found in a white Honda sedan parked at a house in Tauben Glen Street in Hochland Park, some 24 hours after the robbery. The two were initially charged alongside Matheus Hauwanga, Benedictus Kasimbingue, Elikana Nghimwena and Jason Awene, better known as Kilingi. The four were released in 2014 after the prosecution failed to present conclusive evidence that could link them to the armed robbery. More than 3-million dollars of the stolen money was recovered in South Africa.
