The high rate of alcohol consumption in Namibia poses a threat to the country’s development objectives, including the eradication of poverty. In light of this, members of the National Assembly have called for stricter measures to control the availability and use of alcohol in the country.

Cabinet has directed the Ministry of Higher Education, Training and Innovation to re-evaluate qualifications obtained from foreign institutions especially in engineering. Many engineering graduates and those with other technical related qualifications, who studied abroad remain unemployed because their qualifications have not been vetted and given the nod by the NQA.
