The Special Rapporteur for African Commission on Human People’s Rights Lawrence Mute has cautioned the Government against any attempt to shut down social media during elections. Though it has never happened in Namibia, the Commission says the dangerous trend of controlling social media has become a common occurrence in some parts of Africa of late.
President Hage Geingob is hopeful the Access to Information Bill would be finalised before this year’s elections. This came to light after a meeting between the President, the African Commission on Human and People’s Rights and the Namibia Media Trust at State House.
