The embassy of China in Namibia has expressed its disappointment with Chinese nationals who make themselves guilty of poaching. The embassy’s head of the Visa Section, Guilin Giu, used the occasion of a business conference held at the embassy on Sunday, to express the utter disappointment of the Chinese authorities, regarding poaching activities by Chinese nationals in Namibia. Chinese business people who attended the event pledged an amount of N$30 000 dollars which will be given to Government to signify their solidarity against illegal wildlife trading. In addition, they confessed that they often have difficulties in interpreting domestic laws which is often seen as a deliberate attempt defy labour and security laws. Furthermore, Director of Visa Permits and Citizenship in the Home Affairs and Immigration Ministry, Alison Hishekwa, says immigration laws should be treated with utmost care and obedience. Hishekwa added some visitors often defy immigration laws deliberately by obtaining documents for ulterior purposes. He warned those who are in Namibia on the basis of being visitors to refrain from seeking jobs, engaging in businesses or crime. The conference also provided some Chinese business people with an opportunity to engage the Namibian Police on a variety of issues pertaining their well-being and safety.
