The Deputy Minister of Environment and Toursim says the tourism sector has a massive impact on Namibia’s economy and rural development, with an equally important role in poverty eradication. Tommy Nambahu made the remark at the official opening of the Chobe Water Villas at Kasika village in the Zambezi Region. The tourism facility is on the banks of the Chobe River with unique structures and breath-taking views, which aims to attract both local and foreign tourists. But Nambahu pointed out that the industry faced challenges such as lack of transport, infrastructure and services. He further noted that the Government was confident that through public/private partnerships, local stakeholders and the corporate sector, these challenges would be addressed. Zambezi Governor Alufea Sampofu said the establishment would add value to local tourism and would open a window to a magnificent part of Namibia’s wildlife and nature.
