The repair of the storm water drainage system between the Omashare Lodge and the Namibia Police premises at Rundu in the Kavango East region has started. Town Council Public Relations Officer Benjamin Makayi says the lodge falls victim to flooding every rainy season. Makayi says this happens when water from the streets of the central business district drains into the lodge, causing damage to property. He says the heavy rain, which fell early in 2016, dug a deep hole between the two premises, exposing the town’s main water supply pipes and electricity cables. The Rundu town council official notes that the flooding is due to the lack of a storm water drainage system at the town. Makayi explains that the construction of a new storm water drainage system is to protect the water and sewer lines as well as electrical cables. It will also protect buildings and storage tanks at the two premises from soil erosion. Makayi says the tender for the project, with a value of close to 7 million dollars, was awarded to Betonstein Construction.
