Seventy destitute residents of Rundu in the Kavango East region have received food parcels from a relief agency. A local faith-based organisation, Adventist Development and Relief Agency, handed over the food parcels to vulnerable people leaving in informal settlements at the town. The organisation says hunger and social inequality can only be defeated through collective efforts. Its director, Frank Mukube, handed over the food items comprising maize meal, tinned fish, cabbage and cooking oil. Six beneficiaries from each settlement at Rundu were selected with the assistance of settlement committees. Rundu Mayor Verna Sinimbo said the town was full of needy citizens and the donation was a welcome relief. The recipients’ were mostly senior citizens who commended the agency for the gesture. They were shortlisted on the bases of lack of income, housing and inability to fend for themselves.
