The Ministry of Mines and Energy today announced that Namibians will pay 30 cents less per litre of diesel. The price of petrol remains the same. The ministry has kept the petrol price unchanged for eight months as the ministry “tries to help the limping economy get back on its feet by sparing motorists… economic burdens in the form of fuel price hikes”. Oil prices fell sharply in February on mounting worries about economic damage from the Coronavirus that has spread from China over to 20 countries. The exchange rate between the Namibian dollar and the US dollar has depreciated and as a result, offset the benefits of a decline in the oil prices partially.
