No pilchard quotas will be allocated for the next three years due to unfavourable climatic conditions which have led to a decline in fish stocks of this particular species. The Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources, said pilchard stock is still in a precarious situation and during last year’s stock assessment, the population was found to have been poor over six consecutive years as it remained below the long term average of three billion metric tons.
