A group of 100 Epupa Constituency inhabitants in the Kunene region have received hampers, as part of the President’s Winter Charity Drive. The hampers were handed over at Opuwo on Wednesday following a pledge by President Hage Geingob in 2016 to give part of his salary to charity. A pensioner, Maapurua Mbinge, from Okangwati area said, she did not expect to receive food and blankets from someone who is not a relative. Another village resident, Tuaseuapo Tjiposa-Kaviua told Nampa that the drought was so severe that residents were going to bed hungry. Her husband, Tuapuruavi Tjambiru said, they were part of an extended family of about 20 people. Epupa Constituency Councillor, Nguzu Muharukua, urged business people to follow the President’s example. Kunene was the third region to benefit from the winter charity drive after the Khomas and Otjozondjupa regions. The Office of the President says 1000 vulnerable Namibians have benefited from the initiative so far.
