A 69-year-old pensioner has been left homeless after his two-bedroom shack burned down in Freedom Square residential area of Windhoek on Sunday afternoon. By the time NBC News team arrived at the scene, the fire had already been extinguished and items burned to ashes and the frames of the shack could be seen. The owner, Isaskar Karokohe lost almost everything in the blaze, as onlookers could not risk rescuing some items during the raging fire. His only possession is his Toyota Hilux bakkie and the contents of the shack were not insured. The cause of the fire, which has cost him items worth more than N$100 000 is unknown. Karokohe is pleading with Good Samaritans to help him rebuild his life in any way they can by donating items of clothing, food and materials he can use to erect a shelter. Neighbours immediately responded by providing him with a mattress and blankets. He says that the blaze destroyed his furniture, sewing machines and other valuable items since he sold some items from home.
