Gender-based violence (GBV) is a serious concern to the police in the Windhoek Rural Constituency, especially at Groot Aub. The concern was expressed by warrant officer Veronica Nandenga of the Namibian Police, stationed at Groot Aub, saying those most affected are women, children and the elderly. Speaking at an event to mark the 16 Days of Activism Against GBV, at Groot Aub on Saturday, Nandenga says physical, emotional, financial, sexual violence as well as rape, are rife at the settlement. She, however, said GBV victims report cases to the police and then withdraw such cases shortly thereafter, saying the perpetrator is the breadwinner and they will suffer if he goes to jail. The constituency councillor Inga Penina called for joint efforts in the constituency to root out GBV.
