President Hage Geingob says the Second SWAPO Party Policy Conference which ended in the capital on Thursday, will ensure a smooth and brief party congress next year. During the four-day event, discussions centered mainly around transition within the party and ideology, in addition to other pressing matters. The party’s leadership is confident that the burning issue of land would be resolved soon, judging from the recommendations which were proposed by the youth. President Geingob says the Government recognises the land issue as a sensitive matter, which should be handled as such. The Head of State also shared information on the New Equitable Economic Empowerment Framework – NEEEF, saying it must not be understood that the Government is trying to disadvantage well-off persons over previously disadvantaged ones. Amid cheers from Party members, Dr Geingob alluded to constitutional provisions that call for equal distribution of wealth among Namibians. The President’s remarks came after DTA leader McHenry Venaani questioned Dr Geingob’s upholding of the constitution. The President explained that the constitution would be meaningless if custodians do not internalise it or benefit from its provisions. The Policy Conference also pledged to guard against the downgrading of party achievements.
