A delegation from Germany’s Baden Wurttemberg State Ministry of Education is in Windhoek to prepare for the handover of the the Hendrik Witbooi Bible to Namibia. The delegation, led by Petra Olschowsky, is here on a four-day visit during which they will also meet Ministers Katrina Hanse-Himarwa and Ita Kandjii-Murangi as well as the leadership of UNAM, NUST and the Namibian Museums Association. These meetings will focus on a Hendrik Witbooi Museum joint legacy project to strengthen a remembrance culture between the two countries about the 1904-1908 genocide. The German delegation will also meet with descendants of Kaptein Witbooi, the early resistance leader. Germany has 16 federal states and the initiative from Baden Wurtemberg could, if emulated by the other German federal states open new room for deeper cooperation on all levels between Germany and Namibia.
