The Government Institutions Pension Fund, GIPF, will fund the construction of 6000 of the 20 000 houses pledged in the Harambee Prosperity Plan. Its Chief Executive Officer, David Nujoma revealed this at the ground-breaking ceremony of the Osona Village outside Okahandja. The housing development at Osona for now is exclusively for the men and women in uniform. During the first phase of the project, 400 houses will be built. The GIPF intends to build around 11 000 houses at Osona Village, which forms part of Okahandja. The housing development is funded by GIPF through its unlisted investment portfolio. A total of 1500 people applied for houses at Osona Village, but only 400 will be catered for during the first phase. Nujoma said the deployment of these funds would make a tangible contribution to the economic landscape of Namibia and its people and ensure that the Harambee Prosperity Plan became a reality.
